The author studies the possibility of writing covariant distributions on reductive Lie algebras as a finite sum of a product of an invariant distribution by a covariant polynomial. In particular, he considers \(G\)-covariant distributions on a reductive Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\) with values in the space \(V\) of a finite dimensional representation of the adjoint group \(G\) of \({\mathfrak g}\), asking if they can all be factorized as a finite sum of a product of a \(G\)-invariant distribution by a covariant polynomial. The author shows that such a decomposition exists in a weak sense, namely with the distributions appearing in the factorization being not necessarily \(G\)-invariants, and in the case that the target space of the action of \(G\) on \({\mathfrak g}\) is \({\mathfrak g}\). Moreover, he shows the same kind of decomposition for analytic and smooth functions, extending to the smooth case the description given by Dixmier for vector fields tangential to the orbits, thus answering a question of \textit{E. Miranda} and \textit{N. T. Zung} [Math. Res. Lett. 13, No. 5-6, 1001--1012 (2006; Zbl 1112.53062)].
