The authors consider the following convex and nonconvex Cauchy problems in a reflexive and separable Banach space \(E\): \[ \dot{x}(t)\in F(t,x(t)),\quad x(t_0)=a, \] \[ \dot{x}(t)\in \text{ext}\,F(t,x(t)),\quad x(t_0)=a, \] where \(F\) is defined on \([t_0,t_1]\times E\) and takes nonempty closed convex bounded values in \(E\); \(a\in E\); \(\text{ext}\,F(t,x(t))\) denotes the set of the extreme points of \(F(t,x(t))\). First, they provide a relaxation result by assuming the multifunction to be continuous on \([t_0,t_1]\times E\) and bounded and locally Lipschitzian in the \(x\)-variable. Their main result states that the set of all solutions of the second problem is dense in the set of all solutions of the first one (in the metric of uniform convergence). Actually, they prove that the difference between the two solution sets is a set of the first Baire category in the bigger one. Then, the authors provide a relaxation theorem for problems defined on infinite time intervals.
