This two-part basic and comprehensive work deals with the problem of calculation of stretching in some classes of fluid motions and its application to classify flows. In part I the stretching of differential material lines and surfaces in some classes of flows is studied. In part II the flow mixing efficiency is applied to the problem of flow classification. This work is significant for both theoretical and practical aspects of the problems of mixing of fluids, deformation and breakup of fluid microstructures, and flow classification.
