Examples of complete manifolds with positive Ricci curvature (Q1069143)

In this article, the authors construct new examples of complete manifolds with positive Ricci curvature, some of them (unfortunately noncompact) admitting no metric with positive sectional curvature. The construction is based on a thorough study of the geometry and topology of certain algebraic varieties in Euclidean space of codimension 2 along with their intersections with domains bounded by ellipsoids. The induced metric has to be warped near the boundary to be made complete. As a result some delicate estimates have to be proved. The discussion of the examples is quite complete, and leads to the description of interesting families.
