    Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic \(p\). In this paper certain properties of root systems of known simple Lie algebras, in particular properties of orbits (root-strings), are used as axioms defining a \(k\)-rootsystem. For \(Ra=R\cap \mathbb Za\) \((a\in R)\) define \(R^ 0=\{a\in R\mid Ra\cong\mathbb Z_ p\}\) and \(R^{\#}=\{a\in R-\{0\}\mid Ra\cong\mathbb Z_ p- \{\pm b\}\), \(b\in\mathbb Z_ p\}\). If \(R=R^ 0\cup R^{\#}\) and the \(a\)-orbit through \(b\) has \(1\) or \(p-1\) or \(p\) elements for every \(a\in R^ 0-\{0\}\), \(b\in R\), then \(R\) is called a dual Lie rootsystem. The author classifies all dual Lie rootsystems for which \(\dim kR=2\) and \(R^ 0\) is nonempty.
