    We consider irregular non-selfadjoint eigenvalue problems of the form, \[ (1)\quad \ell (y,\lambda)=\sum^{n}_{j=1}(\sum^{j}_{k=0}p_{kj}(x)y^{(k)})\lambda^{n-j} +\lambda^ ny=0,\quad x\in [0,1], \] \[ (2)\quad U_{\nu}(y)=0,\quad \nu =1,2,...,n, \] where \(p_{jj}=const\). for \(1\leq j\leq n\) with \(p_{nn}\neq 0\), \(p_{kj}\in C[0,1]\) for \(2\leq j\leq n\), \(0\leq k\leq n-2\) and \(p_{j-1,j}\in C^ 1[0,1]\) for \(1\leq j\leq n\) and we prove: If \(\sum_{(j,\nu)\in J}a_{j\nu}\phi_{j\nu}\) is a series in eigenfunctions and associated functions of an irregular eigenvalue problem (1), (2), which converges in \(L_ 2[x_ 0,x_ 1]\), \(0\leq x_ 0\leq x_ 1\leq 1\), then we have, under the assumptions of Section 2 of the paper: (i) \(f_{00}(x)=\sum_{(j,\nu)\in J}a_{j\nu}\phi_{j\nu}(x)\) converges uniformly on every interval \([0,\beta]\subset [0,x_ 1)\); (ii) \(f_{00}\) is operator-analytic on the interval \([0,x_ 1)\) and satisfies-together with its derivatives - an infinite set of boundary conditions. The system \((\phi_{j\nu})_{(j,\nu)\in J}\) is complete in \(L_ 2[0,1]\) but contrary to the regular case [compare \textit{A. A. Shkalikov}, Tr. Semin. I. G. Petrovskogo 9, 109-229 (1983; Zbl 0553.34014)] this system and no minimal subsystem of it can form a basis in \(L_ 2[0,1]\).
