This paper discusses the Cuyt approach to Padé approximation in several variables which has, among others, the nice property that projections on complex lines reduce to classical one-variable Padé approximants. The price paid for this is that the multivariate approximants are of high degrees and generally both the denominator and numerator are zero at the origin (in projecting common zeros cancel in all but a finite number of directions). The author shows that in most directions, the non-critical directions, the multivariate Padé approximants and their derivatives have limits corresponding to the approximated function so that interpolation is achieved in some sense. This is however only true in the nondegenerate case, when the degree of the lowest degree term of the denominator is less than expected. In cases of degeneracy it is also shown that the approximants need not depend continuously on the coefficients of the approximated function.
