Joining to previously published reports of the first author [Q. J. Mech. Appl. Math. 36, 163-187 (1983; Zbl 0517.73004) and Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 88, 291-321 (1985; Zbl 0569.73004)], balance equations for ionic and non-ionic mixture constituents are derived from atomistic considerations. The balances are formulated from two points of view, these are the intrinsic one (the constituent is considered in its own right) and the extrinsic one (the mixture is considered as a whole), and the role and meaning of the occuring quantities is studied. The relation of present results to those of conventional kinetic theory (including collision integral) is discussed.
