In a previous paper the author proved that two commuting operators with finite dimensional imaginary parts satisfy an algebraic equation, which represents a generalization of the Cayley-Hamilton theorem. This indicates that a reasonable theory of these operators must be based on the theory of analytic functions on Riemann surfaces of algebraic curves rather than the theory of functions of two independent variables. In the present paper the author establishes connections between two possible directions of investigation related to these problems. One of them deals with semigroups of shifts and the other is based on operator colligations (previously introduced by the author). He shows that these directions are parts of a single theory of collective motions of systems.
