Newton polyhedra and irreducibility (Q1095202)

It is known that a lot of information on a hypersurface singularity is contained in its Newton polyhedron. In the present paper such kind of relationship is studied, namely the connection between the shape of the Newton polyhedron and irreducibility of corresponding formal power series. By analysis of the semigroup of the Newton polyhedra, some combinatorial and geometrical conditions for irreducibility are established. Some examples and possible applications to hypersurface singularities are considered.
