      We consider the essential self-adjointness of Dirac operators \[ H=\sum^{3}_{j=1}\alpha_ jD_ j+\beta +Q(x),\quad x\in {\mathbb{R}}^ 3,\quad D_ j=\frac{1}{i}\frac{\partial}{\partial x_ j}, \] defined on \([C^{\infty}_ 0({\mathbb{R}}^ 3)]^ 4\), where \(\alpha_ j\) and \(\alpha_ 4=\beta\) are \(4\times 4\) Hermitian symmetric matrices satisfying \[ \alpha^ 2_ j=I,\quad \alpha_ j\alpha_ k+\alpha_ k\alpha_ j=0\quad (j\neq k) \] (I is the unit matrix).
