The author considers reaction-diffusion systems describing solid fuel combustion in the framework of activation-energy asymptotics. He reviews known results on the associated steady-state problems, the so-called Gelfand problem; he recalls the existence and multiplicity results obtained by \textit{B. Giaias}, \textit{W. Ni} and \textit{L. Nirenberg} [Commun. Math. Phys. 68, 209-243 (1979; Zbl 0425.35020)] in the case of a spherical domain of \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) and adds properties on the shapes of the solutions, with respect to n. Finally, the author discusses the problem of blow-up for the ignition model.
