The algebraic approach to quantum field theory involves the association of algebras of Hilbert space operators associated with physical observables to bounded subsets of Minkowski space-time [See \textit{R. F. Streater} and \textit{A. Wightman}, PCT, spin, statistics and all that. New York (1964)]. The concrete algebraic properties of such algebras is fixed by physical conditions related to Poincaré invariance, causality, etc. This paper argues that physically reasonable conditions require that these local algebras be of a specific type.
