The author gives a simple characterization for the quotient of a free group to be non-finitely generated. This is used together with small cancellation theory to construct an explicit example of a finitely generated group G and a monomorphism \(\alpha\) : \(G\to G\) such that the intersection of all \(\alpha^ n(G)\), \((n=1,2,...)\), is not finitely generated.
