The author has studied extensively rings which are called almost simple and which include primitive rings having minimal one-sided ideals; and in a previous paper [J. Algebra 108, 534-577 (1987; Zbl 0649.16029)] he developed a Galois correspondence between certain subrings \(B_ 0\) of an almost simple ring A and F-groups of automorphisms of A. But he left until this paper the development of criteria for an intermediate ring B, \(B_ 0\subseteq B\subseteq A\), to be a Galois extension of \(B_ 0\). The criteria are obtained by revisiting the earlier paper and proving two theorems on extending isomorphisms between intermediate rings to automorphisms of A. Although the results are predictable from the well known finite Galois theory for rings of linear transformations, unwieldy definitions are needed to state these results and proofs are very lengthy.
