We use the linearized Euler equations for an ideal fluid occupying the lower half-space, and the Navier-Stokes equations for a layer of viscous fluid of vanishingly small thickness lying above it (viscous film), to obtain the solution of the problem of gravitation-capillary waves on the surface of an ideal fluid produced by the action of surface tension. The conditions under which the viscous film seriously reduces the wave amplitude are found.
