This work is the continuation and improvement of the author's earlier discussion, ibid. 6, 761-775 (1985; Zbl 0586.73081), also improving the result from e.g. ibid. 6, 957-973 (1985; Zbl 0625.73072) on the elastic large deflection problem. We again simplify the von Kármán equation, and finally turn it into the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Secondly, we expand the AKNS equation to still more symmetrical degree under multi- dimensional conditions. Because of the connection between the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the integrability condition for the AKNS equation or the Dirac equation, we can obtain the exact solution for the elastic large deflection problem by the inverse scattering method; that is, the elastic large deflection problem becomes a quantum eigenvalue problem. The problem with orthorhombic anisotropy is also deduced in this paper.
