A quasi-polarized variety is a pair (V,L) consisting of an irreducible reduced projective variety (over an algebraically closed field k of any characteristic) and of a line bundle L on V, which is numerically effective and big. Let \(n=\dim (V)\). Two basic invariants of (V,L) are the \(\Delta\)-genus \(\Delta (V,L)=n+L^ n-h^ 0(L)\) and the sectional genus, which, in this general setting is defined as \(g(V,L)=1-\chi_{n- 1}, \) \(\chi_{n-1}\) being the coefficient appearing in the expansion \(\chi (V,tL)=\sum^{n}_{i=0}\chi_ jt^{[j]}/j!, \) where \(t^{[j]}=t(t+1)\cdot...\cdot (t+j-1^)\) and \(t^{[0]}=1\). The author announces several extensions to quasi-polarized varieties of results known for polarized manifolds, in most part due to himself. They are concerned with : \((1)\quad the\) non-negativity of \(\Delta\) (V,L); \((2)\quad the\) non-negativity of g(V,L) when V is normal and \(Char(k)=0\); and \((3)\quad the\) classification of pairs (V,L) with small \(\Delta\) and g.
