The authors studied the propagation of bulk waves in elastic semiconductors in the presence of an initial state, by linearizing the field equations and constitutive relations of a piezoelastic deformable semiconductor. In addition to linear cross effects, such as electric field-charge and deformation-charge couplings, the application of an initial electric field allows for the presence of other contributions, such as forces of electromagnetic nature, electroresistance effects, etc. The authors then studied the general plane harmonic wave solution for arbitrary symmetry and direction of propagation before the study of various particular cases in the absence and presence of a transverse and longitudinal initial electric field. The authors aimed at exhibiting the dynamical couplings between various elastic modes and electrical properties and the influence of some of the new contributions which are analytically exploitable, such as electromagnetic forces and electrical field-charge couplings. This work might be very useful for those researchers working in the area of wave propagation in electromagnetic elastic solids.
