This is a continuation of the author's paper in ibid. 24, 123-130 (1985; Zbl 0571.53001). Here either of the following two conditions is shown to characterize the Euclidean sphere among smooth surfaces M in \(E^ 3:\) a) M is simply connected and complete, and through each \(p\in M\) there passes a circle on M which is contained in a normal plane to M at p. b) M is compact and for each \(p\in M\) at least one normal section of M at p consists of a circle.
