The numerical solution of Cauchy singular integral equations by Galerkin, spline collocation, and quadrature methods is considered. Improved convergence rates for Galerkin methods are given and new results for collocation methods are presented. In particular the evaluation of inner products by numerical quadrature is examined in detail. A new algorithm for equations of the first kind with index zero and logarithmically singular kernels is developed and convergence is established.
