The notion of \(\alpha\)-sets (also known in the literature as feebly open sets) has been investigated recently in both topology and bitopology. In this paper the authors consider the role of \(\alpha\)-sets in some covering and connectedness properties, for example (countable, local) compactness, paracompactness, (local) connectedness, total and extremal disconnectedness, zero dimensionality. In particular, they study whether the two related topologies on a set \(X\), \(\tau\) and \(\tau^\alpha\) share or not some of the above mentioned properties. If not, they give some nice examples. They also examine by offering theorems and examples if the corresponding bitopological space \((X, \tau, \tau^\alpha)\) still has a covering or connectedness property \(P\) when \(P\) has been shared by \((X,\tau)\) and \((X,\tau^\alpha)\).
