A modified analysis of magnetohydrodynamic thermal/thermohaline convection (Q1176579)

The authors have discussed magnetohydrodynamic thermohaline convection of Veroni's type for the magnetohydrodynamic thermal convection. They have considered only the overstable case and the expressions for the critical Rayleigh number and frequency of oscillations have been obtained. Sufficient conditions for the validity of overstability and the principle of exchange of stabilities have been determined and the region for arresting the complex growth rate of an arbitrary oscillatory perturbation, neutral or unstable is given. The result for corresponding Bénard convection, magnetohydrodynamic Bénard convection, generalized Bénard convection, magnetohydrodynamic generalized Bénard convection and thermohaline convection have been derived from the analysis.
