[For part I see: the authors, ibid. 49, No. 3, 323-352 (1991; Zbl 0738.35063).] The authors continue the study of asymptotic equation for filament function \(\psi\): \[ (1/i)\;\psi_ t=\psi_{\sigma\sigma}+\varepsilon^ 2((1/2)|\psi|^ 2\psi-I[\psi]). \] Here \(t,\sigma\) are special variables, \(\varepsilon\) is a parameter and \(I[\psi]\) is the nonlocal operator, \[ I[\psi]=\int^ \infty_{-\infty}{1\over| h|^ 3}[w/\sigma+h)-w(\sigma)-h(\partial w/\partial\sigma)(\sigma+h)+{1\over 2}h^ 2{\mathcal H}(1-| h|)(\partial^ 2w/\partial\sigma^ 2)]dh, \] where \({\mathcal H}\) is Heaviside's distribution. Using the methods of mathematical analysis, exact solutions and numerical computations, they show, in particular, that this asymptotic equation yields the birth of short wavelength hairpins along a perturbed vortex filament.
