The parabolic integrodifferential Volterra equation \((\Delta\) is the Laplacian) \[ u_ t(t,x)=(\Delta+c)\int^ t_ 0k(t-s)u(s,x)ds+k_ 0u(t,x)+f(t,x), \] \(t\in[0,T]\), \(x\in\Omega\subset R^ n\), \(u(0,x)=u_ 0(x)\), is considered. The set \(\Omega\) is assumed to be bounded; \(c\) and \(k_ 0\) are real constants. The boundary conditions are nonhomogeneous; i.e. \(u(t,x)=\varphi(t,x)\), \(0\leq t\leq T\), \(x\in\partial\Omega\). The kernel \(k\) is realvalued, locally integrable, with a Laplace transform \(\hat k\) satisfying \(\hat k(\lambda)=k_ 1\lambda^{\beta- 1}\left(1+0\left({1\over \lambda}\right)\right)\) for \(\lambda\) in a sector containing the positive real axis. First, existence and regularity results are obtained in the case where \(\varphi\equiv 0\). These results extend those of \textit{G. Da Prato} and {M. Iannelli} [Rend. Semin. Mat. Univ. Padova 62, 207-219 (1980; Zbl 0451.45014)] and \textit{G. Da Prato}, \textit{M. Iannelli} and \textit{E. Sinestrari} [J. Integral Equations 8, 27-40 (1985; Zbl 0576.45011)]. Next, the case \(\varphi\not\equiv 0\) is analyzed. The fact that \(\varphi\) is nonzero and \(k\) singular creates certain technical difficulties. To overcome these, use is made of the Dirichlet problem \(\Delta z(x)+cz(x)=0\), \(x\in\Omega\), \(z(x)=\varphi(x)\), \(x\in\partial\Omega\). The carefully written paper contains numerous existence and regularity results on the Volterra equation above.
