The operator-valued analytic functions \(g_ A(t)\), \(f_ A(t)\) are defined and solutions of Cauchy problems and boundary value problems for the operator differential equation written in the title are expressed by using these functions. The situation when \(A^{1/2}\) or \(A^{-1}\) does not exist is the most interesting one. In another case \(g_ A(t)=\cosh(A^{1/2}t)\) and \(f_ A(t)=A^{-1/2}\hbox{sh}(A^{1/2}t)\).
