The article belongs to a series of papers (cited in the references) of the author dealing with the analytical investigation of Monge-Ampère equations, especially the equation of prescribed Gauss curvature \(\text{det} D^ 2u=K(x)(1+| Du|^ 2)^{(n+2)/2}\) on a domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\). In the present paper the boundary regularity of convex solutions of this equation is studied in the case when the gradient of \(u\) is infinite on some relatively open, uniformly convex portion \(\Gamma\) of \(\partial\Omega\). After a short discussion of problems in which the above situation arises the main results of this paper are stated, consisting of the Hölder continuity with exponent 1/2 of \(u\) near \(\Gamma\) and the regularity of the graph of \(u\) near \(\Gamma\times\mathbb{R}\). Beside this the special case of \(\Gamma=\partial\Omega\) is considered separately. The key idea of the proofs consists in the reformulation of the problem as a free boundary problem for an auxiliary function on which the Legendre transformation is applied. It is worth pointing that the author makes some remarks about extensions of his results to more general Monge-Ampère equations for which the boundary conditions arise in a similar fashion.
