The author considers the range of the \((d,n)\) Radon transform \(R^ n_ d\), which is defined by \(R^ n_ df(\xi)=\int_ \xi f(x)dx\), where \(f\in D(\mathbb{R}^ n)\), \(\xi\in G(d,n)\), the set of \(d\)-dimensional hyperplanes in \(\mathbb{R}^ n\), \(1\leq d\leq n-2\), parametrized by \(d+1\) points \(x_ 0,x_ 1,\dots,x_ d\) on them. His main theorem reads as follows: Let \(v\in D(G(d,n))\). Then there exists a function \(f\in D(\mathbb{R}^ n)\) such that \(v=R^ n_ df\) iff \(v\) satisfies the system of partial differential equations \[ (\partial_{i,k}\partial_{j,e}- \partial_{i,e}\partial_{j,k}){v(x_ 0,x_ 1,\dots,x _ d)\over\text{Vol}\{x_ i-x_ 0\}_{i=1\dots d}}=0,\quad 0\leq i,j\leq d,\quad 1\leq k,\;e\leq n. \] Finally, he analyzes in detail the case \(d=1\), defines a bijection between functions on \(G(1,n)\) and functions on \(\mathbb{R}^{2(n-1)}\) using Plücker coordinates and gives a short proof of a theorem due to F. John concerning all the solutions of a ultrahyperbolic partial differential equation with four variables.
