The paper is concerned with the properties of the Kronecker product \(p_ 1\otimes p_ 2\) of two homogeneous symmetric polynomials. When \(p_ 1\), \(p_ 2\) are Schur functions \(S_ I\), \(S_ J\) respectively, then the product is the Frobenius characteristic of the tensor product of the irreducible representations of the symmetric group corresponding to the diagrams \(I\) and \(J\). If \(\langle ,\rangle\) denotes the usual Hall inner product on the symmetric functions, then the coefficient \(c_{IJK}=\langle S_ I\otimes S_ J,S_ K\rangle\) represents the multiplicity of the representation corresponding to \(K\) in the tensor product. The author obtains an explicit formula for this coefficient whenever the considered diagrams satisfy certain conditions.
