The shape and location of the triple-point locus in Mach reflection for two fundamental axisymmetric cases has been examined, these being the external diffraction by a cone and the internal diffraction within a conically contracting channel. In the first case the triple point locus is a straight line which corresponds to the available experimental results. In the latter case the triple point locus is straight before a transition point and after this is curved.
