Conical Mach reflections differ from equivalent plane two-dimensional Mach reflections because in the axisymmetric case, the disturbances generated at the reflected surface are modified by their more rapidly increasing or decreasing area as they move towards or away from the centerline. The authors derive the governing equations for conical Mach reflections by using a simplified ray-shock theory based on the assumption that the stem is straight and normal to the wall. Some particular cases are considered, and results are presented for converging and diverging, self-similar and non-self-similar cases.
