The most part of this paper is devoted to the asymptotic stability of the positive solutions of the two equations \[ x'(t)=f\left(\int^{- \sigma}_{-\tau}x(t+s)d\mu(s)\right)-g(x(t))\text{ and }x'(t)=x(t)\left[f\left(\int^{-\sigma}_{-\tau}x(t+s)d\mu(s)\right) - g(x(t))\right] \] which are employed to describe some physiological control systems and some population growth processes. Here \(\tau>\sigma>0\) and \(\mu\) is a nondecreasing function. Under appropriate conditions on \(f\) and \(g\) there are given results on the convergence of the solutions to a steady state for some delays or for all delays. As certain specific equations is concerned these results improve related results due to the reviewer et al. [J. Dyn. Differ. Equations 4, No. 1, 161-190 (1992; Zbl 0744.34071)]. The rest of the paper deals with the existence of periodic solutions when \(\mu(s)=0\), if \(s=-\tau\) and \(=1\), if \(-\tau<s\leq 0\).
