This paper is just a summary of our paper ``Kostant's formula and homology vanishing theorems for generalized Kac-Moody algebras'', which is to appear in J. Math. Kyoto Univ. In this paper, we derive, from the Weyl-Kac-Borcherds character formula, a generalization of Kostant's homology theorem (hitherto known only for Kac-Moody algebras) to symmetrizable generalized Kac-Moody algebras \({\mathfrak g}(A)\) associated to a finite size Cartan matrix \(A=(a_{ij})_{i,j\in I}\) such that \(a_{ii}=2\), or 0 (\(i\in I\)). This determines the \({\mathfrak m}\)-module structure of the Lie algebra homology \(H_ *({\mathfrak u}^ -,L(\Lambda))\) of \({\mathfrak u}^ -\) with coefficients in the irreducible highest weight \({\mathfrak g}(A)\)-module \(L(\Lambda)\) with a dominant, integral highest weight \(\Lambda\). Here, \({\mathfrak u}^ -\) is the nilradical, and \({\mathfrak m}\) is the maximal reductive part of a parabolic subalgebra \({\mathfrak p}\) of \({\mathfrak g}(A)\) corresponding to a subset \(J\) of \(I\) such that \(a_{ii}=2\) for all \(i\in J\).
