The author considers the model of wave propagation (in domaion where sources are absent) described by the equation \(c^{-2}(z) \partial ^ 2 U/\partial t^ 2 -\Delta U + b(z) \partial U/ \partial t = 0\), where \(c(z) = c_ 0 = \text{const}\), \(b(z) = 0\) for \(z < 0\), and boundary conditions take the form \(U(x,y,+0,t) = qU(x,y,-0,t)\), \(U_ z (x,y,+0,t) = pU_ z (x,y,-0,t)\). The Green function technique based on wave splitting is used to solve both the direct and inverse (for reconstruction of \(c(z)\) and \(b(z))\) problems.
