The authors establish two approximations for the Bessel function \(J_{\nu}(x)\) for \(x\geq 0\) and -1\(\leq \nu \leq 1\). The results are precise for very small and very large values of x. The approximations are based on rational functions of first degree, fractional powers and trigonometric functions. The results, which are exact for \(\nu =\pm 1/2\), recover the ones already established for \(J_ 0(x)\) and \(J_ 1(x)\) by the same authors. For example for \(J_ 1(x)\) they find the approximation \[ \check J_ 1(x)=\frac{1}{\sqrt{1+x}}[\frac{-x}{2(2- \sqrt{\pi})+\sqrt{\pi}x}\cos x+\frac{3-\sqrt{\pi}+x}{2(2- \sqrt{\pi})+\sqrt{\pi}x}\sin x]. \]
