Quasitilted algebras had been introduced by \textit{D. Happel}, \textit{I. Reiten} and \textit{S. Smalø} [Tilting in Abelian categories and quasitilted algebras, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 575 (1996; Zbl 0849.16011)]. A \(K\)-algebra \(A\), where \(K\) is some (algebraically closed) field is called quasitilted, if the global dimension \(\text{gd}(A)\) of \(A\) is at most 2 and each indecomposable finite-dimensional \(A\)-module \(X\) has projective dimension or injective dimension at most 1. Equivalently, \(A\) is quasitilted if \(A\cong\text{End}_{\mathcal H}(T)\), where \(T\) is a tilting object in a hereditary Abelian \(K\)-category \(\mathcal H\). For \({\mathcal H}=\text{mod }H\), the category of finite-dimensional modules over a finite-dimensional hereditary algebra \(H\), the algebra \(A\) is called a tilted algebra. The paper under review studies tame quasitilted algebras. The main result is as follows: Theorem A. Let \(A\) be a connected quasitilted algebra. The following conditions are equivalent: (i) \(A\) is tame. (ii) \(A\) is of linear growth. (iii) \(A\) is tame tilted or a tame semiregular branch enlargement of a tame concealed algebra. (iv) The homological quadratic form \(\chi_A\) is weakly nonnegative. (v) \(\dim_K\text{Ext}^1_A(X,X)\leq\dim_K\text{End}_A(X)\) for any module \(X\) in \(\text{ind }A\). (vi) Every component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver \(\Gamma(A)\) is standard. (vii) \(A\) is component-directed. -- One of the consequences of this theorem is that connected tame quasitilted algebras are tilted or quasitilted of canonical type. It is a well-known conjecture that this always should be true.
