\textit{J.-C. Birget} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 34, 57-115 (1984; Zbl 0547.20055)] constructed an embedding of an unambiguous semigroup \(S\) into a regular semigroup \((S)_{\text{reg}}\) preserving various properties: \(S\) and \((S)_{\text{reg}}\) have the same subgroups and the same ideal structure except for a zero which is added to the regular semigroup. The semigroup \((S)_{\text{reg}}\) is defined by means of a presentation and the embedding is obtained by showing that elements have a unique ``coded normal form''. The present paper gives another construction of \((S)_{\text{reg}}\) and a different proof of uniqueness of coded normal forms.
