The paper deals with the classical real pseudo-Euclidean Lie algebras \(e(p,q)\). The Lie algebra \(e(p,q)\) is a semidirect sum of the pseudo-orthogonal Lie algebra \(o(p,q)\) and an abelian ideal \(T(n)\) of translations, \(n= p+q\), \(p\geq q\geq 0\). Maximal abelian subalgebras (MASAs) of \(e(p,q)\) are considered. The classification of these subalgebras is presented. At first, splitting MASAs of \(e(p,q)\) are considered, that is the subalgebras that are themselves direct sums of abelian subalgebras of \(o(p,q)\) and of \(T(n)\). The results for these subalgebras are entirely explicit. A decomposition theorem is derived for the classification of nonsplitting MASAs. The complete and explicit classification for the case \(e(p,2)\) illustrates the general results.
