An \(n\)-cap in a finite projective or affine space is a set of \(n\) points, no three of which are collinear. A standard construction involces the theorem that the existence of an \(n\)-cap in \(AG(k,q)\) and an \(m\)-cap in \(YG (\ell,q)\) implies the existence of an \(mn\)-cap in \(PG(k+ \ell,q)\). The authors analyze this construction from the point of view of coding theory.
