The paper concerns the differential inclusion \(y'(t)\in\phi(t,y(t))\) where \(\phi:[0,T]\times K\to E\) is a Carathéodory multifunction with compact, eventually convex values and \(K\) is a proximate retract of a Banach space \(E\). An existence condition (for each \(x\in K\), there exists a solution \(y\) on \([0,T]\) with \(y(0)=x\) to the differential inclusion) is derived from a sufficient condition which makes use of the Bouligand-Severi tangency (for every \(x\in K\) and for almost every \(t\in[0,T]\), \(\phi(t,x)\subseteq T_K(x)\)). The existence is established by a nonlinear alternative of Leray-Schauder type (the author, Nonlinear alternatives for multivalued maps with applications to operator inclusions in abstract spaces, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. (to appear)). There is also considered the related differential inclusion \(y'(t)\in\overline{\text{exp}} \overline{\text{conv}}\phi(t,y(t))\) together with the corresponding tangency condition.
