This book is devoted to motion analysis in image sequences of highly non- rigid bodies. The reader expecting application in robotics could be deceived as the study of ocean surface motion need approaches that can be very different of the one used for a robot arm. Nevertheless, this book presents a very interesting survey of mathematical tools and physical approaches to non-rigid body motion. It is divided in 12 chapters, but really in four parts. 1) Image sequence acquisition and kinematics presents the hypotheses on which any image sequence analysis relies both from the physical and mathematical point of view (Chapters 1 and 2). 2) In chapter 4 the question of what is motion analysis in an image sequence and what are the concepts to analyze motion are investigated. 3) The chapter 5 to 10 are devoted to methods, namely Fourier, differential, quadrature filter set, tensor correlation and phase methods. 4) The last two chapters treat (too briefly) problems of implementation and experimental results.
