[For part I see ibid. 107, No. 2, 325-339 (1991; Zbl 0748.92010).] In a model for the transmission of HIV, the authors study the effect of variable infectivity on the reproduction ratio \(R_ 0\). A numerical analysis suggests that the effect of variable infectivity, subject to a constant average, is to diminish \(R_ 0\).
