The authors discover a very interesting phenomenon in the behaviour of coverings for algebras of infinite representation type. They show that coverings do not always preserve tame representation type and construct some examples of the Galois coverings of \(k\)-bounded quivers \(F:\widetilde {\Lambda} \to \Lambda\) with group of order 2, such that \(\widetilde{\Lambda}\) is always tame and \(\Lambda\) is wild if \(\text{char} (k) = 2\) (otherwise is tame). For this purpose the authors comprehensively study a certain 2-parameter family \((\Lambda_{A,B})_{A,B \in k^*}\) of \(k\)-algebras given by the quiver \(Q = (Q_ 0, Q_ 1)\) and the ideals of relations \((\sigma^ 2 - A\gamma \nu, \rho \nu - B\nu \sigma, \nu \gamma - \rho^ 2, \gamma \rho - \sigma \gamma)\), where \(Q_ 0 = \{a,b\}\), \(Q_ 1 = \{\sigma, \rho, \nu, \gamma\}\), \(\rho\) (resp. \(\sigma\)) is a loop in the point \(a\) (resp. \(b\)), and \(\nu\) (resp. \(\gamma\)) is an arrow with source \(a\) and sink \(b\) (resp. \(b\) and \(a\)). They prove first that all algebras \(\Lambda_{A,B}\) are tame, that \(\Lambda_{A,B}\) is of polynomial growth iff \(AB\neq 1\), and that the universal covering \(\widetilde\Lambda_{A,B}\) of \(\Lambda_{A,B}\) is locally support finite iff \((A,B) \neq (1,1)\). Finally, in the case \(AB= 1\), they construct a certain \(k\)-linear automorphism of order 2 of the algebra \(\Lambda_{A,B}\), acting freely on points. This yields the Galois covering map \(F : \Lambda_{A,A^{- 1}} \to \Lambda^ 0_ A\), where \(\Lambda^ 0_ A\) is a local algebra. The algebra \(\Lambda^ 0_ A\) turns out to be wild if \(\text{char}(k) = 2\). The authors discuss also some related example without oriented cycles, where the above phenomenon occurs.
