In a long series of papers, the authors discussed numerical verifications of finite element solutions for elliptic equations in plane convex polygonal domains or in regular domains, see e.g. the authors [Numer. Funct. Anal. Optimization 12, No. 516, 535-544 (1991; Zbl 0727.35054)]or the second author [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 164, No. 2, 489-507 (1992; Zbl 0771.65046)]. Now the present paper proposes a numerical verification method for plane nonconvex domains. The basic idea is to calculate constants in error estimates which do not depend on the coefficients in the differential operator under consideration (but depend on the shape of domains and of the discretization procedure) numerically with suitably chosen special cases. In this way the dependence of the constants on the mesh size is studied in a heuristic way, too. An example shows the effects for a quasilinear equation in an \(L\)-shaped domain.
