The authors introduce a general framework of linear fractional approximant sequences, which in particular cases reduce to classical continued fractions. Constructive methods for obtaining three types of truncation error bounds are studied: a posteriori bound, a priori bound and an asymptotic estimation of the speed of convergence of the approximant sequences. To estimate the above bounds the authors use concepts of sequences of value regions and of the limit region. Truncation errors for a large number of classes of fractional sequences are given and an extensive bibliography about this question completes this survey.
