    Kooman considers the recurrence \[ z_{n+1}= F_ n (z_ n):= {{z_ n- d_ n} \over {f_ n z_ n+1}} \qquad \text{for } n=1,2,3,\dots \tag{1} \] where \(f_ n\) and \(d_ n\) are real numbers such that \[ \lim {{f_{n+1}} \over {f_ n}}=1, \qquad \lim d_ n f_ n=0 \quad \text{ and } \quad \sum_{n=0}^ \infty f_ n=+\infty \tag{2} \] and he asks for necessary and/or sufficient conditions for convergence of \(\{f_ n z_ n\}\). The results are applied to three term recurrence relations. For a person interested in continued fractions, as the reviewer, it is tempting to do the substitution \(t_ n:=- f_ n z_ n-1\) in (1). It gives \[ t_{n+1}=- 1- {{f_{n+1}} \over {f_ n}}- {{ {{f_{n+1}} \over {f_ n}}+ d_ n f_{n+1}} \over {t_ n}} =:- b_{n+1}+ {{a_{n+1}} \over {t_ n}}. \] Hence, in my vocabulary Kooman considers continued fractions \(K(a_ n/ b_ n)\) with real coefficients \(a_ n\to -1\) and \(b_ n\to 2\), and asks for convergence of its tail sequences \(\{ t_ n\}\). If all \(b_ n\neq 0\) (which they are from some \(n\) on), then \(\{t_ n\}\) is a tail sequence of \(K(a_ n/ b_ n)\) if and only if \(\{t_ n/ b_ n\}\) is a tail sequence of \(K(c_ n/ 1)\) where \(c_ 1:= a_ 1/ b_ 1\) and \(c_ n:= a_ n/ b_{n-1} b_ n\to- {1\over 4}\). Hence there is a strong relationship between Kooman's work and previous work in continued fraction theory.
