A topological property of the Moebius strip is equivalent to a special case of Chichilnisky's impossibility theorem in social choice, which states the impossibility of finding a continuous, anonymous and unanimous aggregation rule for two agents, defined on the unit circle, Chichilnisky's theorem is valid in much more generality, for products of spheres of all dimensions and for infinite-dimensional spaces of (oriented) foliations.
