The long-period component of a solution to an evolution problem without initial data can be determined by considering the solution as a function of time on the entire axis. This component is related to the low- frequency part of the Fourier transform of the solution and describes long-period oscillations, whose separation is of great interest in applied problems, e.g., in geophysics and climatology. Here we construct this component by using an approximate solution that is asymptotically close to the exact solution at low frequencies and asymptotically small at high frequencies.
