To attack the problem of wave propagation in MHD medium in the presence of a boundary layer, the author introduces simplifying assumptions. This introductory part of the study concerns with the Hilbert space formulation. The medium is an ideally conducting fluid with constant pressure (cold fluid plasma), where in the presence of external magnetic field, Alfvén waves and magnetosonic waves occur. This treatment is developed, but the aim of the paper seems rather to describe precisely a matrix procedure and to elaborate systematically a number of theorems with proofs to open the way of treating more complex systems in future.
