The authors propose a solution for the Korteweg-de Vries equation, which is based on linearization, finite-difference approximation of the time derivative, and a quintic spline for the space derivatives. The algebraic system of equations resulting from the spline approximation is block- pentadiagonal with constant coefficients and therefore lends itself to efficient inversion for implicit time discretization. Several examples demonstrate the accuracy of the solution.
